Mentor Coaching Program: Becoming a Mentor Coach
10 ICF CCE hours · Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) pathway

Why this program?

Mentor coaching is now a recognized specialization of its own. With the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS), the ICF has confirmed that mentoring coaches toward their credentials needs more than being a competent coach. A mentor coach listens with an evaluative ear, maps what they hear against the ICF competencies, and gives feedback that is precise, fair and developmental, while protecting each coach’s own style.

This program gives you the 10 hours of mentor coaching education required for the MCS Credit for Prior Learning pathway. More importantly, it helps you become a mentor coach that coaches truly grow with. You practice the craft step by step, using real recordings, real feedback and the same criteria ICF uses for credentialing.

What makes it different

  • Learning from real practice: you work with your peer’s recorded session, from self-assessment to group feedback to mentoring a peer.
  • Real sessions, not scripts: you listen to real coaching and mentoring sessions and see how each is documented, word for word.
  • Coaching vs. mentor stance: you practice moving between client-led coaching and competency-based feedback.
  • A Jungian lens: “The Mentor as Mirror” explores persona, shadow and individuation in feedback.
  • Live practicum: you mentor a peer under supervision and receive feedback on your mentoring.
  • Ready-to-use tools: you get ACC BARS and PCC Markers templates, plus observation and reflection forms.
